Greg Wilcox of New Zealand retains overall lead in 2012 OK Dinghy World Championship
New Zealand’s Greg Wilcox was outstanding on the fourth day of the 2012 OK Dinghy World Championship and grabbed the leading podium place.
He displayed superb sailing skills during his campaign in the advance stages of the event and was able to hit the leading position of the regatta with 20 points after taking part in three races.
The Kiwi sailor continued his tremendous sailing on the penultimate day of the regatta and grabbed a 10th and a second finish to retain the top podium place with 16 points. Wilcox kept the top position after one race was discarded from the overall
scores.
The weather conditions on the racing area at the Vallensbaek Sailing Club in Denmark were the same as Day 4 because the winds were not strong enough to have some sound sailing. The winds were gusting around four to six knots over the race course which troubled
the sailors a bit.
Wilcox is getting close to claiming the event title but he is being closely followed by Germany’s André Budzien because he is on second podium finish with 17 points. One lower finish on the final day of the regatta will bring Wilcox down in the standings.
The regatta is going to be tough on the final day because the participants are pulling up their socks to grab a strong position.
