Grega Zemlja wins final round qualifying match against Jesse Galung – Qatar Open 2012
Slovenia’s Grega Zemlja faced Netherland’s Jesse Huta Galung in the men’s qualifying final round match at the 2012 Qatar Open.
The Slovenian won the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
With the first set in progress, Zemlja scored three aces but Galung could not score any ace but did concede two double faults. Since the start of the first set, Galung was uncomfortable playing against the Slovenian as his serves were off target and his
reply shots were ineffective. Zemlja, on the other hand, had a good run with his service for he had a 62% first serve winning ratio while Galung had a 52% winning rate.
Zemlja led in terms of scoring points on first serve as he scored 77% points from his first serve while Galung scored 62% points. In the second serve, both players had a lower winning ratio as Zemlja won 38% points and Galung could only win 25% points. Both
players were unable to save all of their breakpoints as Zemlja could save three out of the four breakpoints he faced while Galung could save only three out of the six points he faced. The Slovenian was going swiftly in the first set and kept increasing his
lead. He restricted Galung to two games while winning all of his and eventually took the first set 6-2.
In the second set, both Zemlja and Galung scored a single ace with neither one them scoring a double fault. Zemlja was again on the offensive as he got a 67% first serve winning ratio while Galung could get a 50% winning rate. The Slovenian was consistently
keeping immense pressure upon the Dutch who was barely hanging in the second set. Zemlja won 79% points from his first serve and 71% points from his second serve.
This was enough to give him a boost as the second set progressed for Galung could only win 43% points in both the sets. The Dutch did his best in overcoming Zemlja but the Slovenian proved to be a better player with great insights on shots and game play.
This is the reason why he never went on the back foot and kept an offensive stance throughout the match. Zemlja did a great job with all of his service games in the second set for he did not concede any breakpoint. This showed the level of focus he had with
his service shots which left Galung in trouble. His dismal run continued in the second set where he could win only a single game as Zemlja won the second set 6-1.
