Gregg Popovich not happy about San Antonio Spurs losing two games to Los Angeles Clippers within the first month – NBA News

The San Antonio Spurs are not used to losing. Over the past decade in the NBA, there have been teams which have won NBA championships and dominated seasons like the Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and Miami
Heat. However, no team has been as consistent season after season as the Spurs. They have been playoff favourites and title contenders, as was witnessed last season when everyone counted them out and they went on a 20-0 win streak. Hence, it is safe to assume
that the Spurs take losing very seriously. And when Gregg Popovich does not like something he sees in the team, he makes sure that his players know about it.
The Spurs lost to the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night in a close grind out game, as the Clippers made good shots and scored on crucial points late in the period to ensure their success at the end of the game. The Spurs, who
are known for changing the complexion of the game in the final period with their bursting offence and solid defence, were outplayed by the Clippers in that game. However, it is no shame to lose to the Clippers since they have one of the best rosters in the
league this season and are playing exceptionally. But for a guy like Popovich, losing two games to the same team within one month is not acceptable, and he made his feelings known after the game.
“Of all of our games, this is in the soft category. We never had five guys that competed hard enough to win the basketball game, the Clippers took it with their aggressiveness and toughness, both mentally and physically. And I
thought for a portion of that game we were an embarrassment. So we’ve got to look at that and look at the film and make sure everybody understands that this is a game that has to be played with competitiveness for 48 minutes. And that’s the bottom line,” said
Popovich is his trademark calm way after the game, as reported by NBA.com.
The Spurs are still 8-3 this season and among the top teams of the West at the moment, but Popovich saw something in the game which he did not like and wanted to ignite the fire back in his roster, hence he took the indirect route.
The Spurs are definitely going to be a different team next time they take the court after they hear the words of their coach.
