Gregor Gazvoda wins third stage and also takes overall lead in 2011 Tour of Qinghai Lake
Perutnina Ptuj team’s Gregor Gazvoda showed his tremendous performance and won the third stage. He also took the overall standing in 2011 Tour of Qinghai Lake on Monday, July 4.
The race started in Qinghai Lake and ended in Bird Island. The 29-year-old Solvenia cyclist took a total of 2 hours, 47 minutes and 49 seconds to cover the distance of 120.6 kilometres.
After winning the stage, Gazvoda told the media, "The Kazakhs Gruzdevom we worked together on the run, without taktiziranja, with the exception of the last few kilometers. Although I remained alone at the helm, I had to sprint is still enough strength to
win."
Dmitry Gruzdev of Kazakhstan was in good form and tried his best to take a lead, but he failed and gained a second place. Boris Shpilevsky of Tabriz Petrochemical finished third with a difference of 2 minutes and 57 seconds.
The second stage winner, Mateusz Taciak (CCC Polsat Polkowice), was unable to maintain his winning-streak and grabbed the 27th place, ahead of Volodymyr Bileka (Amore & Vita) and Eugene Wacker (Giant Kenda Cycling).
A group of three cyclists made their first breakaway, which include Jesus Rosendo Prado (Andalucia Caja Granada), Philipp Mamos (Amore & Vita) and Tomislav Danculovic (Loborika Favorit). All of them gained a lead of few seconds over the peloton, but Jesus
Rosendo increased his pace and won the first sprint of the stage.
After a few kilometres, three cyclists were caught by the peloton and a new group was formed including, Boris Shpilevsky, Aaron Kemps and Radoslav Rogina. Boris Shpilevsky maintained his pace and took the second sprint.
Kristijan Durasek (Loborika Favorit) took the overall mountain classification with 9 points ahead of Biao Liu. Dmitry Gruzdev took the title of best young rider classification, ahead of Gher Mizbani and Amir Zargari.
Gregor Gazvoda also took the overall lead by clocking a total of 8 hours, 53 minutes and 51 seconds. Dmirty Gruzdev was the runner-up with 4 seconds adrift and Mateusz Taciak finished third with 1 minute and 15 seconds behind Gazvoda.
The next stage will start in Bird Island and end in Xihaizhen. All the riders will cover the distance of 152.4 kilometres.
