Gregorio Paltrinieri captures Men’s 1500m freestyle gold: Day three – European LC Championships
Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy captured gold medal of the Men’s 1500m freestyle on third day of the European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Wednesday, May 23.
Paltrinieri stayed in a significant lead over his challengers throughout the distant freestyle event. With his epic start and astonishing efforts, he remained more than 10 metres ahead of his challenger and proved his mettle for gold medal of the event.
His commendable efforts placed him at the medal rostrum for gold medal as he clocked a time of 14 minutes and 48.92 seconds.
The champion was followed by Gergo Kis of Hungary, who stayed nearly ten seconds apart and hit the finishing blockade for silver medal by producing a time of 14 minutes and 58.15 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Gergely Gyurta of Hungary, who stayed nearly six seconds behind and occupied bronze medal of the event by reporting an effort of 15 minutes and 04.38 seconds.
Gyurta was chased by Samuel Pizzetti of Italy, who was almost five seconds slower from overpowering the third position holder and posted a time of 15 minutes and 09.83 seconds.
On the other hand, the crowd experienced forceful efforts of Paul Biedermann in the Men’s 200m freestyle playoff.
Biedermann, who is the world record holder of the 200m event, elevated his efforts in the playoff and ensured his place on top of the victory stand for gold medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 46.27 seconds.
He was chased by Amaury Leveaux of France, who met expectations of his supporters by reporting a time of 1 minute and 47.69 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was obtained by Dominik Kozma of Hungary, who stayed only 0.03 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing wall with an effort of 1 minute and 47.72 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Tim Wallburger of Germany, who stayed just an inch slower from his foregoing finisher and submitted a time of 1 minute and 47.75 seconds.
Furthermore, the position holders received awards and accolades for their notable efforts at the medal ceremony of the championship.
