Gregorio Paltrinieri wins Men’s 1500m freestyle gold – European SC Swimming Championships
Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy won gold medal of the Men’s 1500m freestyle on third day of the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France on Saturday, November 24.
Paltrinieri showed no mercy to his opponents in the 1500m discipline and proved his eligibility for the crown. With his impeccable pace from the start, Paltrinieri enjoyed a comfortable lead over his opponents throughout the race and tapped the finishing
blockade for gold medal.
He remained nearly three body lengths ahead of his closest competitor and touched the wall with an effort of 14 minutes and 27.78 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was followed by Sergiy Frolov of Ukraine, who stayed 3.09 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end as second fastest swimmer by producing a time of 14 minutes and 30.87 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Anthony Pannier of France, who stayed 11.12 seconds apart and proved his eligibility for bronze medal by clocking a time of 14 minutes and 41.97 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Mateusz Sawrymowicz of Poland, who stayed two body lengths slower from his preceding swimmer and settled on the wall by posting a time of 14 minutes and 43.87 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Gabriele Detti of Italy, who stayed prominently behind Sawrymowicz and finished his race in a time of 14 minutes and 45.72 seconds.
Detti was followed by Patrik Rakos of Hungary, who stayed 4.15 seconds away from his former finisher and proved his eligibility for sixth place by clocking an effort of 14 minutes and 49.87 seconds.
Rakos was followed by Marc Sanchez Torrens of Spain, who suffered a loss of almost 3.50 seconds from his foregoing finisher and concluded his race in a time of 14 minutes and 53.14 seconds for seventh place.
Last position of the race was secured by Maxym Shemberyev, who was unable to improve his position and ended eighth in the event with an effort of 14 minutes and 55.77 seconds.
In addition, Paltrinieri was happy with his performance and collected accolade after the race.
