Gregory Bourdy leading the Omega European Masters
Gregory Bourdy leads the first round of the Omega European Masters, taking place at Crans-sur-Sierre, with a score of 63 points.
The French player played a magnificent 8-under- par round that was amazingly bogey free. This performance surprised everyone, as he was not one of the favourites of the tournaments. Talking about his round, he said, “It was a great day. I don't think I've
ever played better.”
Bourdy started the round with a birdie on the very first hole. This is often a good sign of what to expect from the player later in the round. He did not disappoint his fans and the experts, and played a great game throughout the round.
The second hole also saw him hitting a birdie. His confidence was at its peak as he moved on to the third hole. The next two holes were played at par. On the fifth hole, he again hit a birdie, bringing his total to three-under.
The sixth hole was on par. The seventh hole saw a birdie and this was repeated on the eighth hole. The front nine ended on a par hole on the ninth.
The back nine started with a birdie on the 10th hole. From this point until the 14th hole, Bourdy played an average game. On the 15th hole, he shot another birdie and brought his bag of birdies to seven.
On the 17th hole, he scored another birdie and closed the round with a par on the 18th hole. His final score was 8-under 63.
Bourdy was very excited about the round and said, “This course isn't the most difficult, but it's not the easiest either because you have to hit the ball very straight, and I managed to do that today. I only missed one shot all day, but still managed to
save par. My attitude was very good; I was very positive and that's why I finished very well”.
The defending champion Thomas Bjorn did not fare this well. His final score was 74 points. With a deficit of 11 points, his chances of defending his title appear to be slim at the end of the first round.
