Gregory Bourdy leads, Anirban Lahiri lurks at the Omega European Masters
Frenchman Gregory Bourdy shot eight birdies in a bogey-free round of 63 for a two-stroke lead, after the first round of the Omega European Masters at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, on Thursday, August 30, 2012.
With the heavy showers of rainfall on the course venue, Bourdy showed his brilliance, displaying an amazing game, with his beautiful stroke-play.
He started off on the back nine of the course and birdied the 10th, 15th and the 17th hole to post a 32 on the leaderboard. The outward nine also witnessed him play some amazing shots that earned him another five birdies to end the day on a high note.
“We’ve never had rain like this here before. It was raining even more than it did in Scotland last week!” said Bourdy.
“The forecast for the next couple of days is not great either, but there’s nothing you can do about it. You just have to deal with it, and I managed to do that very well today. I feel much warmer after a 63, that’s for sure”.
Sweden’s Fredrik Andersson Hed and Oliver Fisher of England tied for the second place after registering a six-under par 65 each.
India’s Anirban Lahiri, in the meantime, continued his great form on the tour and posted a five-under par 66, to finish within three strokes of the leader.
Lahiri is currently having the best season of his career. He enjoyed four top-10 finishes this year, including a victory at the SAIL-SBI Open – his second on the Asian Tour.
According to him, it was the best round among all of his appearances in the tournament. He stated that he never played the event with a positive frame of mind in the past.
However, the scenario is completely different this time. He has some good finishes in hand and played aggressively in each of the tournaments this year.
“I putted really well on the front-nine as I holed everything that I looked at. I did hit a lot of shots off here and there but I’m glad I scrambled well and I’m happy that I didn’t drop a shot,” Lahiri said.
