Gregory Bourdy on top of the leaderboard through the halfway mark at Open de Espana: Wrap-up Part-1
The second round of the star-studded Open de Espana culminated with Frenchman Gregory Bourdy on top of the leaderboard.
The 30-year-old French golfer is in search of his fourth European Tour victory and will now be hoping to break his winless streak with his latest venture on the European Tour.
Bourdy started the day with a birdie on the opening hole on the front and went over to card three more with a bogey on par-four, 4th.
He made the turn three-under and continued with his blistering birdie run on the back nine.
He fell for an early bogey on the opening holes on the back nine at par-three, 11th and regained his composure towards the closing holes.
He carded two consecutive birdies on the 13th and 14th and pulled another two on 16th and 17th.
Bourdy has been struggling with his form for a considerable period of time and has only managed to post one top-10 finish in his 24 starts on the tour.
He said, "I've just been patient, I've not made a score like that for a long time in these conditions. It's good for the confidence. I’m very happy about this round, particularly in these conditions. I made eight birdies and just two bogeys”.
Bourdy has a terrible start of the event when he was only able to manage a humble one-over, 73 battling the tough day at the scenic Real Club de Golf de Sevilla.
Although the day was windy and hot and the thick roughs also piled problems for the golfers, Bourdy had a better day playing in the conditions and managed to avoid disastrous double-bogeys on the likes of the opening round.
He added, “Yesterday one over was not so bad in that wind, but today I played really well, I felt comfortable and very solid, very consistent and I also made some important putts, so I’ll try to keep going like this”.
Bourdy finished for a six-under, 66 to post an aggregate score of five-under, 139, staying one stroke clear of the nearest contender.
Englishman Simon Dyson posted an impressive three-under, 69 against a humble one-under, 71 on the opening day to fall behind the leader by one stroke.
