The young Italian has not been able to post a strong finish as yet on the tour since the start of the current season and has been lurking in obscurity for quite a while.
Manassero added, “I didn’t play really well, but never put myself in serious trouble. I’ve scrambled well, I made some good up and downs at the beginning of my back nine, but the last four or five holes I started playing very good golf well and that gives
me some confidence”.
He failed to break into the top-50 on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and was not able to play at the Masters this year, a fact that he lamented later on.
Manassero is currently poised at joint second along with Dyson, Englishman Robert Rock and Spaniard Jorge Campillo.
Campillo started off from the back nine, hoping to charge to the top of the leaderboard after a strong opening round of four-under, 68.
He pulled in three birdies on the back nine after falling for a disastrous bogey on the opening hole at par- four, 10th.
He made the turn to fall for a bogey at par-four, 2nd and went over to card the lone birdie on the front before he dropped another two shots to close the day for a lacklustre level-par.
He is still in contention for the title over the weekend, owing primarily to his wonderful knock on the first day.
Meanwhile Rock, who had a whirlwind opening round in the event yesterday where he carded two eagles, four birdies and fell for two bogeys and a double-bogey at par-four, 14th.
He carded a comparatively sloppy round on the second day and remained defensive through the 18-hole stretch.
Opening with a birdie on the first hole of the back nine, Rock dropped two consecutive shots on the closing holes, losing his composure before making the turn.
He carded two more birdies on the front and dropped a shot to close for four-under on the aggregate.
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Champion is hoping to break into top-60 on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) in order to qualify for the US Open in June.
