Gregory Gaultier thrashes Mohd Azlan Iskandar in 2nd round – Lloyd PSA Masters 2011.
Fourth seeded French Gregory Gaultier beat the unseeded Malaysian Mohd Azlan Iskandar in the second round of the Lloyd PSA Masters 2011.
The two players had taken up the gauntlet at the ninth and final PSA World Series squash event of the year which is held at the Siri Fort Complex in New Delhi, India. It took the fourth seeded Frenchman only thirty nine minutes to get rid of the unseeded
Malaysian in straight three sets of 11-7, 11-6, and 11-8.
The first round of the match was initiated by the fourth seeded Frenchman as he had won the service toss and he was able to hold his serve. Moreover, he was first to take a lead, though, Azlan had tried his best and even played with a better return in the
middle of the game. However, eventually the Frenchman had gotten the best of the Malaysian and bagged the get to go one up in the match.
Nonetheless, during the second set the players again initiated a cat and mouse chase at the beginning but once more Azlan lost control during the mid of the game. This resulted in him plummeting further into the abyss and he ultimately finished poorly as
he handed the second set to the fourth seeded Frenchman.
By the end of the first two sets, the fourth seeded Frenchman had bagged two sets and was now only a set away from victory. Commencing the third set was Azlan and this time he performed way better than the previous two games.
This time the fourth seeded Frenchman found himself 6-5 down but another backhand error from Azlan brought him to level the score. It was extremely sad to see the Malaysian hit the ball straight back to himself down the middle of the court
and with that the score was 8-6, then 9-6, and ultimately the fourth seeded Frenchman closed out the set with an 11-8 score.
In doing so; the fourth seeded Frenchman not only conquered the set but also the match! Next up for Gaultier is eighth seeded Dutch Laurens Jan Anjema in the quarterfinal of t he tournament.
