Gregory Mallet secures Men’s 200m butterfly gold – 2013 Mediterranean Meet
Gregory Mallet of France secured gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on day one of the 2013 Mediterranean Meet in Marseille, France, on Friday, March 1.
The French swimmer showed no mercy to his opponents in the distant butterfly discipline and cruised his way towards the finishing end for gold medal. He faced strong contest from his competitor in the playoff but with his strong determination, he managed
to secure the title.
He stayed only one stroke ahead of his foregoing finisher and proved his mettle for first position with an effort of 1 minute and 50.22 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Romain Magula of France, who was 0.47 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and stepped on the finishing end for silver medal by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 50.69 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Filippo Barbacini of Italy, who stayed more than half a body length ahead of his following swimmer and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 51.28 seconds.
Fourth position holder was obtained by Albert Puig Garrich of Spain, who stayed only 0.01 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and settled on the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 51.29 seconds.
Puig was traced by Marc Sanchez Torrens of Spain, who stayed almost full body length behind and posted a time of 1 minute and 52.12 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Eloi Saumell Montserrat of Spain, who was half a body length behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 52.88 seconds.
Saumell was followed by Victor Martin Martin of Spain, who was 0.12 seconds apart and finished his swim in seventh place by reporting a time of 1 minute and 53.00 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Joe Alberto Vera Ortiz of Spain, who was only 0.20 seconds slower from his former finisher and clocked a time of 1 minute and 53.00 seconds.
Furthermore, Mallet received huge appreciation from the audience and collected medal after the event.
