Gregory Rast to replace Stuart O' Grady as the two time National Champion joins Leopard Trek
Radio Shack’s cyclist Gregory Rast has signed with team Leopard Trek for the next year as the Swiss cyclist will be joining his countryman Fabian Cancellara for the 2012-13 seasons.
Rast have won the National Under-23 Road Race Championship twice in 2002-04 while in 2006 he managed the first place at the podium during the National Road Race Championship. The 31-year-old won the Tour de Luxembourg in 2007 with a 6th overall
position at the Tour of Poland. He brought a stage 1 win at the Tour de France, 2009 while riding for Astana as his most recent win with Team RadioShack came in Paris Roubaix when he finished at fourth position.
Kim Andersen who is the team manager for Leopard Trek commented about the inclusion of Gregory as he mentioned that he will fit perfectly in the team and will benefit Leopard Trek with his strengths as his abilities are not hidden from any one especially
his astonishing performances at Paris-Roubaix and he is the most suitable rider for the Tour of Flanders.
Gregory will be filling in for Stuart O’ Grady who has joined Green Edge and the Swiss will be providing support to Cancellara in his new team for the coming spring classics. On commenting about Leopard Trek, Rast shared his feelings as he mentioned that
it is a great feeling to see his future with a team as big as Leopard Trek and he is really looking forward to fit in the team and give his best performance.
Rast added that he is looking ahead to Tour of Flanders as he said, “The Tour of Flanders is my all-time favourite race. Over the years, I have also learned to love Paris-Roubaix. I’m really looking forward to racing alongside Fabian, who I’ve known since
we were both juniors. I’m hoping to support him towards success in those races.”
He further added that it he will make full use of the opportunity to ride with the great cyclists like Fabian Cancellara, Andy Schleck and Frank Schleck and it will be interesting to see how he blends in with his new team.
