Gregory Soszynski and to battle for IBF light heavyweight gold today – Boxing News
Gregory Soszynski, the current WBC Mediterranean light heavyweight champion, will enter in a 10-round career-boosting skirmish against Rayco Saunders, the former World Boxing Foundation All Americas light heavyweight champion, on March 31, 2012 with the
vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) light heavyweight gold up for grabs.
The above light heavyweight bout will headline the pay-per-view put forth by Sam Merza of Windy City KO and the ring for the Saturday night wild ride will be stretched at The Club arena situated in Burbank, Illinois, United States.
The event will be co-headlined by the eight-round non-title skirmish between Mike Gavronski and Alberto Mercedes. Gregory and Rayco recently met at the pre-bout weigh in ceremony and shared their thoughts and lofty aims of winning the bout while nailing
the other one to become the owner of the apex divisional gold.
The Polish Gregory has been in a total 22 bouts and came out victorious in 20. He has collected just 10 of his total wins by knocking the opponent out. The 30-year-old lost just one bout to Dawid Kostecki via unanimous decision and since then is on a four-bout
win streak.
When compared to his Saturday night opponent, Rayco Saunders, Gregory is seriously outclassed in the experience department. But this intimidating aspect is nullified by the fact that Saunders, 37, has lost most of his bouts.
Rayco, also known as the ‘War’, has been in a total 38 bouts and emerged victorious in just 22. He has collected only nine wins by knockout, another facet enough to boost Gregory’s motivation.
In addition, Rayco has made himself quite a reputation of losing almost all the title fights he has been into. The only title he was able to win was World Boxing Foundation All Americas light heavyweight gold, a belt that he won after nailing Demetrius Davis.
During the weigh-in, the veteran Rayco said, “I’m not impressed with Soszynski’s record because I fought much tougher opposition. I have more experience and more determination and it will be clearly visible in the ring.”
Gregory, on the other hand, did not lose his cool and calmly replied, “Nobody cares what Rayco wants to say now. He does not know me, he does not know where I’m coming from. I’m ready for 12 hard fought rounds. My girlfriend surprised me, arriving today
from Poland and nobody want to lose in front of their loved ones.”
Gregory needs to take out Rayco in the early stages otherwise experience will play its due role and Saunders might gift Gregory his career’s second defeat in front of his girl friend. At the moment the odds are 50-50 but the initial rounds will definitely
tell who has the upper hand and who might win the IBF gold.
