Gregory Soszynski takes on veteran Rayco Saunders for IBF North American gold – Boxing News
Gregory Soszynski, the polish ace light heavyweight, will take on the former NABA cruiserweight champion Rayco Saunders, in a 10-round bout to decide the ownership of the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) North American light heavyweight gold.
The duo will headline the pay-per-view put forth by Sam Merza of Windy City KO and the ring for the March 31, 2012 bout will be stretched at The Club arena situated in Burbank, Illinois, United States.
Recently the duo met at Chicago and participated in the pre-bout press conference while sharing their thoughts about each other. Gregory, 30, has been in a total 22 bouts and came out victorious in 20. He has collected 10 of his wins by knocking the opponent’s
senses out.
Well known as ‘The Eagle’ in his home country, the Polish proud is coming from a huge 12-round title win over Geard Ajetovic, a bout in which he grabbed the prestigious WBC Mediterranean light heavyweight title.
Rayco, on the contrary, is far more experienced as compared to Gregory. Widely known as the ‘War’, Saunders has been in a total 38 bouts and came out victorious in 22. He has won nine of his bouts by knockout. Though Rayco has lost many brawls yet he cannot
be taken as an easy opponent.
Rayco is a 37-year-old veteran and has won many titles in his career. At the moment despite of being more experienced than Gregory, Rayco does not have odds in his favour because of his low win ratio. It must be noted that Gregory is a hardcore brawler who
lost his career’s only bout to David Kostecki because of a broken right hand.
This time the things are different and Saunders must consider the bout a ‘war’ rather than a simple skirmish. During the press conference the duo aggressively targeted each other so much so that Gregory dubbed Rayco as ‘just another step’ in becoming the
light heavyweight champion.
Gregory harshly stated, “I don’t even consider losing to Rayco. It can and it will not happen. I want to be considered one of the best in the light heavyweight division, fight for the championship belt and Saunders is just a step forward.”
Saunders also did not go easy on Gregory and commented, “I don’t care about fighting on March 31 in Chicago’s southside, in front of a hostile Polish crowd. Half of my life I fought away from my home and in “The Club” I will be fighting against one man,
not 2000 of his supporters.”
Rayco must come up with an effective game plan otherwise he will be pummelled by the surging polish belligerent who has already his eyes and mind set on the light heavyweight gold.
