The Dutch international insists that arrival of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Niklas-Moisander-c27919 and Christian Poulsen has boosted his side’s chances of winning silverware this term, and another season at Amsterdam Arena will not be a nightmare situation for him.
Gregory van der Wiel has long been linked with a move away from Ajax Amsterdam this summer. However, it seems that the Dutch international has to spend another season at Amsterdam Arena, as none of the interested clubs have thus far tabled a bid to acquire
his services, with only three days remaining before the summer transfer window slams shut.
The highly-rated right-back, who has been plying his trade at Amsterdam Arena since the summer of 2007, has revealed that anything is possible before the ongoing summer transfer window slams shut.
“Everything is still possible. A new contract with Ajax? Yeah, that is also an option, but that will be a topic after September 1. Until then, we look at a transfer. However, there is nothing concrete”, Van der Wiel was quoted as saying to goal.com.
Although, the 24-year-old stopper earlier expressed his desire to leave the Amsterdam giants this summer, it seems highly unlikely that he would be moving away from Amsterdam Arena.
However, the Dutchman has now revealed that it will not be a problem should he continue plying his trade at De Joden.
“I [will] also definitely consider another year at Ajax. We have a good team and with Niklas [Moisander] and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Poulsen-c9114 we have the necessary experience there”, Van der Wiel added.
The talented full-back featured in his side’s 5-0 win over NAC on August 25, and he was pleased with his side’s impressive performance.
“I thought it went well, after ten minutes we were already leading 2-0, then I got an assist. So yes, I can be satisfied with my own performance. Basically, clubs know by now what I can do. It is important to stay focused for 90 minutes”, Van Der Wiel concluded.
The Dutch stopper, who has thus far played more than 100 league matches for the Amsterdammers, has a contract at Amsterdam Arena that is due to expire in the summer of 2013.
