Gregory van der Wiel has claimed he has not yet had any contact with English Premier League side Chelsea, but admitted he would want a move to the London club.
The Champions League winners are reportedly interested in signing the Ajax defender in the summer transfer window, but apparently have not yet made an offer for Van der Wiel. The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from Ajax this summer, but it
is not yet certain where he will end up.
Van der Wiel is currently focused on the upcoming European Championships, where he will represent the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753. Because of his fantastic performance for both club and country, a number of sides are looking to sign him, with Chelsea currently leading the
race.
The Blues are determined to sign the right-back, having been short on defenders in the past season despite winning the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League. Even in the final of the European competition, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Branislav-Ivanovic-c7994.
In the absence of the experienced defenders, the London side had to rely on relatively inexperienced http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Cole-c6809 and Jose Bosingwa were deployed.
While Cole was first choice for the Blues for the Champions League final, Bosingwa would have most likely not have been given a start if Ivanovic had not been suspended. It is for this reason that Chelsea are looking to being in more defenders.
However, Van der Wiel has not yet been approached by the Blues but revealed he would consider making a move to Stamford Bridge, especially after watching them perform so well in the UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich.
Van der Wiel said while speaking to reporters:
“I didn't hear anything from my manager, I think it is just rumours and we will see in the future what comes.”
He continued:
“Yeah of course I would it is a beautiful club. I watch a lot of English football and they won the Champions League and it was a great performance.”
