Greivis Vasquez sets a high bar for Marc Gasol; says teammate set to be best centre in NBA
Memphis Grizzlies guard Greivis Vasquez made a very bold prediction during a recent interview when he said that he believed Marc Gasol will be the best centre in the NBA in just a few years. Gasol started out in the NBA as a little
known player. Most people referred to him as the less talented brother of Los Angeles Lakers star Pau Gasol, but he has come on in leaps and bounds over the last season. Still saying that Marc would be the best centre in the NBA three years from now seems
a bit farfetched.
Gasol has proved he is a good player, one of the better centre’s around for sure. However for the title of best centre he still has a stupendously huge road block in the form of one Dwight Howard. Howard is in a league of his own
right now and is a year younger than Marc. Which he will still be three years from now. That shouldn’t though divert attention from the fact that Marc Gasol’s star is on the rise.
Gasol had a breakout season last year and he followed it up with some tremendous performances in the NBA playoffs. The player was especially superb in Memphis’ first round victory over the San Antonio Spurs, who were the first
seed in the Western Conference. Many people started to notice the bulky centre after that series and his teammate was certainly impressed.
“Marc Gasol is a very key player on our team. He’s one of the best centres in the league and will end up being the best centre in the NBA in 2-3 years. He has very good chemistry with Zach Randolph. Besides, Marc is a leader. He
didn’t miss a single practice all year long. And that’s commendable. He’s a model to follow. I hope he stays with us for a long time. Having a centre like that on our team is going to give us a lot of hope. You can shoot for the Finals and be the champion.”
Randolph and Marc certainly did a good job. If the pair is kept together they can form one of the most dominating power forward-centre duos in the league and help the Grizzlies achieve a lot more success on the court. So they should
concentrate on keeping them together.
Gasol is a restricted free agent this summer and when the NBA lockout ends he is sure to receive some big offers from rival NBA franchises. Odds are Memphis will match whatever offer he receives and keep the big man who is set
to provide the base for their side in the future.
