Gremelmayr/Kamke overcome Beck/Sela in the first round – Hall of Fame Championships 2011
Denis Gremelmayr and Tobias Kamke of Germany fought back after the bashing in the first set to beat Slovakian/Israeli pair of Karol Beck and Dudi Sela in three sets 1-6, 6-2 10-8 in the opening round at the Campbell’s Hall of Fame
Tennis Championships in Newport on Wednesday. The match lasted for 58 minutes.
Beck and Sela were almost flawless in the first set as they allowed the German team to win only one game, breaking them twice to clinch the set 6-1.
The Slovakian/Israeli duo had a low first serve percentage, delivering a meagre 35 percent of the first serves in the first set. Beck and Sela grabbed 75 percent of the first service points and 67 percent of the second service
points in the opening set. While, Gremelmayr and Kamke hit 56 percent of the first serves, converting 60 percent of them into points. The weak link in their game was their second serve conversion rate as they managed to convert just 25 percent of the second
serves into points in the first set. The Germans captured 25 percent of the first return points. On the other hand, Beck and Sela returned superbly, winning a whopping 40 percent of the points on first returns. The Slovakian/Israeli team converted both break
points they received and saved all the five break points they faced in the first set.
After losing the first set miserably, Gremelmayr and Kamke came roaring in the second set as they broke the Slovakian/Israeli pair in the first game and held their serve in the next game to take a 2-0 lead. The Germans broke again
in the seventh game and consolidated on it to seal the set 6-2.
Gremelmayr and Kamke kept their first serve percentage at 42 percent in the second set. The Germans claimed 75 percent of the first service points and 91 percent of the points on the second serve in the second set. Contrary to
the first set, they returned very well, clinching 42 percent of the first return points. Gremelmayr and Kamke capitalised on both break point opportunities they created on the Slovakian/Israeli team’s serve in the second set.
In the match tie-break, the Germans bagged a single mini-break to claim it 10-8. The unseeded duo won four of the five first service points in the match tie-break.
Gremelmayr and Kamke will face Swedish/Canadian pair of Johan Brunstrom and Adil Shamasdin in the quarterfinals. Brunstrom and Shamasdin ousted Matthias Bachinger and Michael Kohlmann of Germany in the first round.
