Where is this idea of gremlins destroying planes coming from?.... Is it just a coincidence?? In the show the twilight zone, a man spots a creature destroying the plane? Also in bugz bunny, bugz reads an article about gremlins destroying planes and later on sees one. Another is in futurama where a gremlin is on the plane?? where is all this coming from? It doesnt seem like it would be a coincidence?..Did people actually believe there were gremlins who destroyed planes a long long time ago? Or did some guy write a book about it. Please answer : D! (by the way i do not believe in gremlins.... if thats what you think.. I'm just wondering where all this came from)

  1. supposedly, gremlins attack any technology these are just examples where it happens to be airplanes, probably because it makes the situation scarier

  2. The gremlin was an invention of a British Royal Air Force bomber squadron shortly before the Second World War.  The squadron had been plagued by minor tech problems and the officers invented the gremlin as the source of them, the name being a combination of the Brothers Grimm and the Fremlin's Brewery, whose beer was the only brand stocked in the squadron bar.

The idea quickly caught on with RAF units during the war after the squadron was posted back to the UK, and the gremlin has since been blamed for breakdowns not only in aircraft but virtually any other kind of machine.

The only way to foil the activities of gremlins, apparently , is to lay an empty beer bottle nearby - apparently they will crawl inside and stay there.

  3. Look it up in Google or Wikipedia, I love that scene in the twilight zone when the goblin shakes his finger at the guy and says no no

  4. well it might have been started as a urban legend in the 40s around the time bugs was around, and the shows the twilight zone and futurama used it as a storyline too

  5. This idea came from an active and creative mind at a time when society was becoming interested in the supernatural.  The stories at the time were that some people were afraid of flying because of this and as you know, a similar thing happened after Jaws was previewed.
