Grenadier guards?

hi again stainless hear I have been watching the series on guarding the queen, about the grenadier guards, what i want to know is what is the slot or slit near the end of their bayonettes its just behind the pointy bit

It has two jobs to do.

Yes it's for allowing blood flow from the wound and air to get in, bringing on death quicker.

The slot is also used to hook up with the scabbard to make a wire cutting tool.

You can also use the pointy end to clean the muck out of your finger nails prior to inspection.

this slot is the blood letting gate it allows air to enter the stab wound allowing you to remove the blade more easily so you can quickly go on to another stab....Well you did ask sorry its not pleasant...
