Greta Arn defeats Kristyna Pliskova; moves it into the quarterfinals of 2011 Grand Prix De SAR

Hungary’s fourth seed, Greta Arn retained her excellent form in the second round match of the 2011 Grand Prix De SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem on Wednesday. She defeated Kristyna Pliskova of Czech Republic in three sets to assure
her attendance at the third round of the tournament. The 32-year-old Hungarian won the match with a score line of 6-4, 6-4, taking one hour and twenty eight minutes of play.
The Czech teenager was completely out of her form and couldn’t manage the classy moves she displayed in her previous matches. The Czech pro has one ITF (International Tennis Federation) title to her name which she won at the 2010
Wimbledon Championships in junior singles. She was the second qualifier at the tournament behind the Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu. She moved past Magda Linette, Leticia Costas-Moreira and Severine Beltrame to reach the main draw of the tournament. She then
moved on to play her first round match where she defeated Renata Voracova before being ultimately sent home by the Hungarian Arn, who will continue her journey towards the final spot.
Players didn’t start out that brilliant though. The first set was played very poorly as none of them showed much resistance to each other. Especially Pliskova who was unable to play good tennis, perhaps because of the mental and
physical fatigue she accumulated from her previous matches. Her strokes were not finding their marks and she was unable to find the momentum which she had in her previous four matches. It was a very passive performance for the Czech who has now lost seven
matches.
During the whole match, both players gave each other plenty of opportunities to break back. Arn made 45 percent of her first serves, won 71 percent of her first serves points and 57percent of her second serves points. Pliskova,
on the other hand, made 38 percent of her first serves, won 89 percent of her first serve points and 60 percent of her second serve points. In the second set, after Arn who was two for two on breakpoints on the day, got a break to lead 2-0, with a help of
her stunning defensive shot.
With this win, Arn has extended her match winning streak to eleven matches. She now moves on ahead to face Simona Halep of Romania in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Halep is a seventh seed at the tournament and moved past
Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia and Anastasiya Yakimova of Belarus in her first two matches.
In other power packed performances from the day, Nadia Lalami, Kristen Flipkens and Simona Halep registered strong wins to secure their berth in the last eight.
