Greta Arn hammers Severine Beltrame in the second round qualies – Open GDF Suez 2012
Hungarian veteran, Greta Arn, worked her way through the qualifying competition of the Open GDF Suez on Sunday, defeating her 32-year-old age fellow, Severine Beltrame, in the second round of the qualifying draw. The fourth seed,
Arn, took one hour and 53 minutes to wrap up the two-setter, with the final scores of 7-6(3), 6-3, getting a step closer to the main rounds of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) event in Paris, France.
The contest remained evenly poised in the opening set, with the 76th ranked Hungarian winning in the tie-breaker round. Beltrame lost all her steam in the following set and was completely blown away by Arn to finish
her voyage at the Open GDF Suez in a dismal fashion.
Local crowd at Stade Pierre de Coubertin was in to support the unseeded contestant French contestant but the matchup ended in sheer dismay for them. Beltrame had her opportunities in the match but her error-ridden game play didn’t
allow her to capitalize on them. The French crafted 10 break chances but could only convert two of them, while suffering four out of five conversions from the Hungarian veteran to finish on the losing side.
A competitive opening set was played, with the two contestants labouring hard to gain some early advantage with aggressive approach. Beltrame drew the first blood in the third game and went on with her fierce impetus to nail another
one in the fifth game to lead 4-1 in the set. It appeared as if the unseeded French was well on her way to register an upset but tide turned in the sixth game when Arn came back strongly with a break of serve. Beltrame held her serve once before Arn stung
another much needed break point in the 10th game, levelling the scores at 5-5.
Once the scores got deadlocked at 6-6, a tie breaker round came into play. The fourth seed wasted lesser time in racing away to 6-3 lead in the decider and served out of the first set at 7-6(3).
With 1-0 lead in the matchup, Arn ignited the following set with confidence and registered another serve break in the fifth game to lead 3-2. She kept building pressure upon Beltrame and broke her serve for the fourth time in the
match to close out victory at 6-3. She will face the unseeded Spaniard, Garbine Muguruza Blanco, in the final round qualifiers to get through to the main draw of Open GDF Suez.
