Greta Arn upsets Klara Zakopalova in opening round – Rogers Cup 2011
Starting on the 8th of August 2011 was the first round of the Rogers Cup 2011. This was the initial meeting of the two players; Greta Arn and Klara Zakopalova. On the hard courts of the Rexall Centre
they clashed against each other at York University, Toronto, Canada. The Hungarian (Arn) won the match with a 6-3, 6-1.
During the first set Zakopalova’s accuracy faltered and she struck 2 double faults hitting the net. Zakopalova had a bad day, as she was not able to display her serving technique and only managed to win a pathetic
38% in her total service points. While, her return was stronger than her attack, it was still not up to the mark as she won an average 52% in her total return points. In addition, her defence was failing her and she saved only two of the six break points and
broke her opponent only twice.
On the Contrary, Arn had luck on her side along with her experience which helped her to excel in her performance. Even though her serve was not above average she had an exceptional return and was able to amass
62% in her total return points.
Although, she only managed to save 2 of the 3 break points she capitalized on 67% of her rival’s break points and won the set with 12% points more than her opponent’s.
Arn won the pitch and served with great self assurance as she had previously won the set. With extreme exactitude she struck zero double faults and was able to hit 71% of her first serves on target which enabled
her to win an exceptional 76% in her total service points. While, her return serve was a mediocre display of re-coiling shots which enabled her to win an above average 56% of her total return points.

Additionally, she had a sturdy defence and did not allow a single break point chances to her opponent (Zakopalova) while, converting 2 of the 4 break points faced to her advantage.
On the other hand, Zakopalova performance had slightly improved in this set as compared to the second but she still lacked the numbers and attained a meagre 44% in her total serve points but her return serve
was a shame as she only mustered 24% of her total return points. Her defence slipped as she endorsed her opponent with two break points and she lost the set with almost half as many points as the Hungarian’s.
In spite of her age the 32-year-old (Arn) was running across the courts and had a far better performance than her younger competitor (Zakopalova). Greta Arn dominated both the sets and won with a 2-0 lead.
