The 2. Bundesliga side was unfortunate to lose after the reigning German champions scored in the dying moments of added extra time.
Greuther Furth have expressed their disappointment after losing to Borussia Dortmund in the first semi-final of the German Cup. Dortmund will now take on the winner of the second semi-final between Borussia Monchengladbach and
Bayern Munich.
The Cloverleaves’ manager, Mike Buskens, mentioned that it is frustrating to lose after his team kept the visitors at bay for almost 120 minutes. He described Ilkay Gundogan’s goal as ‘unfortunate’ as the shot took a deflection
off Jasmin Fejzic before going in.
Fejzic came off the bench moments before the goal as Buskens decided to bring him in place of his first choice goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Max-c24993 Grun. The boss defended his decision by claiming that the substitute is better option for a penalty
shootout.
Busken believes that his team were unlucky but encouraged his players for stretching this game into extra time. He hailed the players for coming this far in the competition only to lose to one of the top German sides. He advised
them to maintain the same concentration level in the future as they head for 2.Bundesliga triumph.
While talking to official FIFA website, fifa.com, the boss further added:
"Of course this is bitter, but sadly football is like this. We have got to lift ourselves up again. These are setbacks which are part of the game and you have got to show character. When you play such a game against the defending
German champions, then you have got to be proud."
On the other hand, Dortmund manager, Jurgen Klopp also praised the opponent’s effort on the night. He opined that if the Cloverleaves had not changed their goalkeeper then things might have been different. He also praised Gundogan
for his decisive effort and stated that the midfielder is improving with every game.
"It is perfectly legitimate for Furth to change their goalkeeper, but the fact is, they prepared for penalties two minutes too soon. Gundogan is a fantastic footballer, but he doesn't shoot often enough," Klopp concluded.
Dortmund will return to league action against Koln on Sunday, March 25 while Furth will take on Karlsruher SC on Saturday, March 24. Both teams are atop the league table in their respective divisions.
