Izzy and Denny met because Izzy was an intern on his case. He automatically had an interest in her and she liked his sense of humor.

Izzy and Alex were going through tough times and she got over him and started to fall in love with Denny. When she does fall in love with him, he ends up needing a new heart. He is the 2nd on the list because of 17 seconds so she thinks he should get the heart. she cuts his LVAD wire and pumps his heart herself in hopes of making him sicker she he will get the heart. He asks her to marry him and she says yes. On the night of the prom at the hospital, she goes to visit him and finds him dead. He died of what they think was a heart attack.
