Grey goo theory's and ideas?

Could anybody tell me your ideas on grey goo? Wiki peda something says alot but I want to know what you think.

Whats Grey goo?  I'm sure that I have an oppinion on it, but I can't say what that oppinion is untill I know what Grey Goo is.

Ah, yes.  now that I know what Grey Goo is I can spout off an opinion:

I think that it is unlikely that we will ever build self replicating nanomachines capable of destroying everything in the environment. Mainly because nanomachines are not something that your everyday terrorist or thirdworld dictator would have the resources and technology to produce.  Nanomachines will be generally produced to serve a specific purpos, and no self-respecting capitolist would wish to produce one that destroys the earth.

I think that a more likely senario(though still far fetched) would be to produce a genetically modified super-germ that could turn anything into goo.  Right now we use naturally occuring yeast and bacteria to turn corn kernals into biofeul.  The micro-organisms availabe are not able to turn the corn stalks into feul, but scientist are working on modifying them to make something that can digest any plant material.  A superorganism that can digest any plant material on earth and turn it into biofeul!  Of course they would design it to only be able to work in controled industrial environments, but unlike nano machines, living organisms are capable of mutating and evolving.  If they were to evolve to be able to survive in the outside environment we would have a real grey goo situation on our hands!
