Greyhound Board of Great Britain holds roadshow to introduce new penalty guidelines, first seminar at Sunderland
In May this year the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) announced plans to revise its penalty guidelines to add rules on infringement and in June these new rules were made available. The
guidelines are to be applicable from September 1st 2011 onwards and in order to facilitate their smooth implementation the GBGB Director of Regulation Declan Donnelly is organising a roadshow to present seminars on the new guidelines.
The roadshow started at 11th July 2011 at Sunderland Stadium to an audience of trainers who were eager to understand the impact and relevance of the guidelines for them. The two
hour presentation was open to all and concluded with a question and answer session and refreshments.
The new guidelines were finalised after internal consultations within the GBGB Rules of Racing Committee and then discussions with other members of the greyhound racing industry. The final
guidelines were then approved by the main board of the GBGB.
Prior to the seminar Donnelly had strongly encouraged active participation from trainers to gain more knowledge on the rules of racing and the new changes in them.
Speaking at the seminar Donnelly said:
“The Penalty Guidelines have been introduced to provide greater clarity and consistency throughout the disciplinary process whether this is from a Local Inquiry right through to an
appeal to the Appeal Board. This is the first time that the process and procedures surrounding the disciplinary process have been drawn together into a single point of reference”.
The changes in the guidelines include amendments such as the introduction of a Disciplinary Authority. The Disciplinary Authority will include Stipendiary Stewards, the Disciplinary Committee,
Appeal Board and Director of Regulation.
The roadshow will move to a new stadium every day, including Sheffield, Monmore, Oxford and Romford. The purpose of these new guidelines is to enhance the welfare of greyhounds and to help
the greyhound racing industry perform better. It is therefore imperative that all those associated with the industry especially trainers attend the next seminar at Sheffield with as much zeal as was witnessed at the seminar at Sunderland on Sunday.
