Greyhound Girls provide the perfect stocking thriller

It’s that time of year again.
A time of year where wives, girlfriends, sisters and mothers start to ponder what to get the boys for Christmas.
The usual response from sofas around the country to Christmas present inquiries will be a disgruntled grunt, the meaning of which can usually be translated as "Not now, I’m trying to watch the footy." That leaves the women to make a decision on a present, or if you will, man-gift, on their own.
In usual circumstances, letting women get on with the shopping is a genius move, but around Christmas time a lady's judgement for these items cannot always be trusted.
Many will take the easy route, buying the latest Cheryl Cole or Ann Widdecombe (just me?) calendar to hit the shops, but there is an option that will excite its recipient and benefit a good cause at the same time.
The answer – the Greyhound Girls Calendar 2011.
'Greyhound racing has girls?' I hear you scream. Well yes, they do, and very beautiful and intelligent ones at that.
Just take a look at - http://www.greyhoundgirls.co.uk/home The cost? A mere £10.
The girls, headed by Sky Sports’ Julie Collier, are releasing this incredibly s**y calendar to challenge the notion that greyhound racing involves more varied types than the obvious stereotypes. Additionally, and equally as important, all of the proceeds go straight to the Retired Greyhound Trust.
Speaking on the website, Collier reveals that the future of greyhound racing is very much in need of more initiatives like this to erase the old fashioned stereotype.
“There are lots of young people involved in greyhound racing and, tough as it is for many of them, their love of the dogs prevails. In my opinion, these people need to be pushed to the forefront of the industry for two reasons.
“Firstly, without a new generation coming through, I believe the sport will die. Secondly, I want to challenge the notion that greyhound racing is all about men in flat caps.”
Amanda Duplock, who is the Quality Manager at the greyhound board of Great Britain and Miss May in the calendar, echoed the sentiments of Collier on a Sky News interview recently, also stating what an important part the retired greyhound trust is of the sport.
“The main aim is to obviously raise as much money as we can for a great cause,” Duplock told Sky News.
“But it will also show people that these are the kind of people that are in our sport. This is the new generation of greyhound racing.”
The calendar includes bettor.com Scottish Derby winning trainer Carly Philpott, Kelly Macari, who has had a very successful year with her star hound Mill Pinpoint, and many more stunning women from the greyhound racing world.
So fear not, your Christmas present worries are over – the calendar is sure to be a wonderful stocking filler, for an equally wonderful cause.
