it has come to my attention that many people in my neighbourhood have a negative view of greyhounds....and i was wondering what other people may think of them...we have 10 but they are well looked after with top of the range meat, kibble and vitamins, they have plenty of exercise and are givin individual attention and grooming..i love this breed of dog and cant understand why ppl think they are vicious....i know for a fact that a blue heeler and other breeds would kill a little animal before a greyhound did..greyhounds chase but rarely kill...well not many that we have owned are killers...what are peoples opinions on this breed??

  1. Greyhounds have been bred for thousands of years to hunt. They kill their prey, usually rabbits and hares. Racing or coursing Greyhounds are usually raised with other Greyhounds. Cats, Yorkies and Toy Poodles and other smaller pets  look like game to them, particularly if they're running.

Greyhounds regularly used for coursing or right off the race track should be kept away from cats and smaller dogs until they are deemed safe. Always introduce a retired Greyhound to other pets slowly, muzzled and on a lead. Let the Greyhound know they are NOT to be attacked. Discourage and correct any lunging, straining or stalking behaviors ASAP. Be advised that the same small animal the Greyhound will not attack indoors suddenly reawakens the chase instinct when it runs outdoors. Greyhounds make wonderful pets if properly trained.

  2. i dont really know how greyhounds could be consideered as vicious. i think its just instinct for all dogs to chase smaller animals and play with them but accidentally killing them. i think people should think themselves as vicious since they are the people who make their greyhounds race.

  3. I always consider greyhounds to be sweet dogs that love to run. I never considered them vicious and never once have I known a purebred greyhound....
