Grid of six teams finalised for the Final Round of 2012 FIVB World League – Volleyball News
Following the successful completion of Intercontinental Round of the 2012 FIVB World League, the competition is scheduled to enter the Final Round and a total of six teams will be on board to compete for the title.
Bulgaria, USA, Germany, Cuba, Poland, and Brazil have been finalised for the final phase of the competition. The influential Final Round will be hosted by Bulgarian City Sofia. The Final Round will cover its length from July 4-8.
According to the set formula of International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), Bulgaria earned a spot in the Final Round on the bases of being the host nation. Despite the competitive advantage, the national volleyball team of Bulgaria put up great struggle and proved its potential in the preliminaries. The team entered the competition alongside Germany, Portugal, and Argentina in Pool D and did amazingly well. Bulgarian team appeared in a total of 12 matches and ended with 8-4 record. With the loss of only four matches, Bulgaria settled for second position in Pool D.
In addition to the hosts, the top teams from four pools also clawed their way to the Final Round. Caribbean team from Cuba secured a trip to Sofia, Bulgaria on account of its wonderful performance in Pool A of the 2012 FIVB World League. Caribbean hotshots played a total of 12 matches and achieved an overall record of 10-2 in four weeks. They bagged a total of 28 points and qualified for the Final Round.
Two teams from Pool B, Poland and Brazil, earned the Final Round spots. Poland became the first team that joined Bulgaria in the Final Round via Intercontinental competition. Poland finished off with 10-2 record and earned 29 points. Poles had a tough competition with Brazilian team for the top position in Pool B. However, Poland got lucky and entered the Final Round in the first place, while Brazil had to wait until the conclusion of prelims in rest of the pools. Brazil was allotted a spot in the Final Round as the second-best ranked team in the Pools of 2012 FIVB World League.
Likewise, US team clinched the Final Round berth from Pool C. Germany finished as top team in Pool D and settled for the Final Round. In the next run, the six teams will play in the classification of two pools: Pool E and Pool F.
