Grid of sixteen duos finalised for Baden Masters Main Draw – Volleyball news
The Baden Masters women’s beach volleyball tournament, which started off on Wednesday in Austria, successfully completed the first two stages and entered the Main Draw on May 25.
According to the set formula of the competition, the Main Draw received a total of sixteen teams. Four pairs were already in the Main Draw on account of the higher ranking points but 12 teams joined them through Qualification Tournament that took place on
Thursday. Hence, top sixteen duos of the competition reserved their seats in the influential round of the Baden Masters main draw.
Speaking of the Qualification Tournament, most of the teams earned byes in the first round. A total of 32 teams were supposed to compete in the first round on Thursday but only three matches were played. Rest of the matches ended in forfeits.
In the first practical match, Spain’s Ribera-Antequera defeated the Polish team that consisted of Woloszyn and Suwinska. The match continued for almost one hour and finally ended with the following result: 1-2 (21-7, 16-21, 10-15). Spaniards captured two
sets, while Poles lost the match after claiming only frame.
In the next encounter, home duo of Teufl-Klopf took on visiting Taubøll-Hjortland from Norway. Equipped with the support of local fans, the home duo cruised past to 2-1 (21-23, 21-14, 15-9) victory in the match. Teufl-Klopf staged great performance and delighted
the home audience.
Third mach of the 1st round featured Dutch Wiltens-Driessen and Spains’ Matveeva-Florian. It turned out to be one-sided affair as Spanish team totally dominated the scene. They finished the match in two sets and earned victory. The final set scores of the
match were 2-0 (21-10, 21-16).
Following the completion of first round, the second round matches took place. Second round featured a lot of action.
Two teams from Czech Republic clinched success in the second round competition. Duos of Bonnerova-Hermannova and Rehackova-Vorlova proved their endeavours and defeated opponents from Spain and Bulgaria, respectively.
Likewise, Slovakian tandems also bagged success as they defeated teams from Norway and Spain. Michalovicova-Cizmarova of Slovakia claimed 2-0 victory over Norwegian pair, while Dubovcova-Nestarcova downed the Spaniards.
Furthermore, one duo each from Slovenia, Germany, Switzerland, and Spain also emerged successful in the second round of Qualification Tournament.
The Qualification Tournament of Baden Masters concluded with the third round, which featured four games. Czech Republic’s Bonnerova-Hermannova clashed with Michalovicova-Cizmarova of Slovakia in the opening affair of third round. Czech pair proved to be
better and claimed 2-0 (21-18, 21-18) win over rivals.
German Bieneck-Großner also gave out a winning performance defeated Vodeb-Fabjan, S. of Slovenia in the next fixture. Swiss Forrer-Vergé-Dépré also joined the winners’ circle after defeating Rehackova-Vorlova of Czech Republic. In the last match of the day,
Slovakian Dubovcova-Nestarcova downed Simon-Hopf of Spain and clawed their way to the Main Draw.
