Grid translation vectors?

im doing some grid translations and it says draw the image after a translation through the vector

(-1)

what does that mean? 'through the vector -1, 3.

i think it means move it up 3 and move it down 1. or down 3 and up 1

but i dont know how i do it with a -1

  1. The translation is a simple transport, and the vector is an arrow pointing from the origin of the axes to the point that has the coordinates given. [In common grids you can take any point as origin]. The coordinates are always in the order x (horizontally) - y (vertically). The minus sign means the negative parts (left or down) and the plus sign is the opposite thing.

    The instruction is not very clear to me (I do not have the shape to be translated in front of me), but as I perceive it, it means that you have to move your shape by 1 unit to the left and 3 units upwards.
