Griffiths wants bigger impact
Saracens chief executive Edward Griffiths wants the club to make a stronger impression on rugby when the new season begins.
Saracens narrowly missed out on the Premiership title last season when they lost to Leicester in the title-deciding play-off game. However, Griffiths says that loss has been forgotten now and the side are looking at the bigger picture for this season.
Saracens have one of the strongest playing squads in the country but they could do a little more away from the playing field to have an impact on the sport. This seems to be what Griffiths is after as he looks for the club to create a legacy for future generations to follow.
There are a number of reasons why Saracens can make a huge impact this season. The club have to focus on the rugby first because only success on the field will make the chances of having an impact off the field greater.
Can have a big impact
The club has a very well known coach in Brendan Ventner who is no stranger to creating a bit of controversy. Ventner likes to speak his mind and although this has landed him in trouble before it makes the club centre of attention.
Saracens are a well established Premiership club and have been in the top-flight of English rugby for a long time. They are well prepared in terms of the playing staff and the facilities that the club possess off the field. Both of these factors mean that if the chief executive sets an aim, the club can reach this.
Saracens' playing squad is laced with brilliant attacking and fast players. Players such as James Short and Kelly Brown have the ability to score a lot of points in a single game. This can lead to huge points totals and this creates a massive impact within the league.
Griffiths said: "We wanted to win but what we want is to be a club that has a positive impact. We just want to become a bigger, better club that brings a bigger impact into the lives of more people. It was a fairytale season and not all fairytales have a happy ending."
Success first
It is very likely that Griffiths and other members of the club want Saracens to achieve a number of off field objectives by the end of the season. However, these will only be made possible if the club are successful and win games.
This is because it creates attention and focus on the club. People then start to listen and read about the impact the club are having away from the playing field and this in turn creates more respect for Saracens as a rugby club.
Saracens has a very good, although controversial coach, and a great balance between youth and experience across the club. Playing aims will always come first but the club is already having a big impact on the lives of many people.
Betting advice
Saracens is one of the top three or four sides in the country and this means it will have just as good a chance of success as Bath, Leicester or Harlequins. Ventner likes his teams to play attacking and aggressive rugby and this will be reflected in their early games.
If you prefer to back individuals in a side then work out who will be kicking and put a bet on them to be the top scorer at the club by the end of the season. Kickers can score from penalties and conversions as well as open play and hence often score more points.
