Grigor Dimitrov cripples Rogerio Dutra Silva in opening round – Skistar Swedish Open 2012
Sixth seeded Bulgarian, Grigor Dimitrov, trashed the Brazilian challenger, Rogerio Dutra Silva, with a breadstick at the Skistar Swedish Open 2012 on Wednesday. He nudged up a 6-1, 6-4 victory against the world number 100 to power into the round of 16 at
this outdoor clay court tournament taking place in Bastad, Sweden.
The Bulgarian star displayed exceptional skills to pull out the victory in their first duel against each other. After earning the glory in one hour and nine minutes, Dimitrov not only edged in the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Head 2 Head
series by 1-0 against the 28-year-old but also booked a place in the second round.
Dimitrov high spiritedly entered this ATP World Tour 250 series event and earned the critical break in the third game to leap to a 3-1 lead. Apart from losing his serve in the sixth game, the Bulgarian wiped out the last three games in a row and clicked
the opener with a 6-1 win.
69th ranked Dimitrov maintained his intensity in the following set and was never threatened with any breakpoint. He smashed powerful forehands and capitalised on one out of three break chances, eventually sealing the set with a 6-4 score line.
Summing up the 21-year-old’s performance, Dimitrov dominated throughout the clash. He clobbered a lower first serve share of 61 per cent as opposed to his rival’s 69 per cent but brilliantly marked 26 out of 30 points on it. The Bulgarian icon also sought
one double faults and ended the match with 61 points.
Up next for Dimitrov is the Portuguese contestant, Frederico Gil, who rallied past Turkey’s Marsel Ilhan in a topsy turvy three setter to set up this battle. Gil was broken twice but capitalised on two out of seven break opportunities to earn the glory.
The top seed, David Ferrer, also earned the limelight later that day. He failed to block both breakpoints he faced but capitalised on four out of seven break chances to formulate a 6-4, 6-3 success in one hour and 14 minutes. The Spanish number two clobbered
