Grigor Dimitrov dispenses out Kevin Anderson in the second round – AEGON International 2011
Another upset at the AEGON International on Wednesday, when sixth seed, Kevin Anderson of South Africa, crashed out of the tournament at the hands of Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria. Anderson suffered a straight sets defeat 3-6, 2-6,
from the Bulgarian opponent in the second round clash of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 event.
Winner of the SA Tennis Open this year, Anderson failed to put up a decent fight against the dominant Dimitrov, who outplayed his opponent in every segment of the game to come out as the winner. The Bulgarian had no real difficulty
in taking down Anderson in the opener and carried out his brilliance to wrap up victory in the second set.
Despite of a bleak serve of merely 55 percent accuracy and five double faults in the contest, Dimitrov reeled off 23 out of 27 first serve points to get the competitive advantage over the South African. He broke Anderson’s serve
on three different occasions while holding serve in all of his nine serve games.
Anderson appeared in all sorts of trouble right from the beginning of the match, spraying errant strokes all over the court to fall on his back foot in the contest. The South African couldn’t craft a single break opportunity in
the entire matchup and nabbed just 41 of 99 total points being played in the contest.
The 20-year-old Bulgarian also had a shaky start to the contest but got hold of his nerves very soon to take down his opponent. Dimitrov stung the first serve break of the match in the third game and then held serve to lead 3-1
in the opener. He amazingly secured all of his 11 first serve points with a below par serve precision of 44 percent.
Anderson failed to recover from the early deficit he suffered and eventually submitted the opening set to the Bulgarian at 3-6. His drastic run continued in the following set as well, with Dimitrov striking break point early to
get hold of the game. Anderson kept crumbling under the pressure of defeat and dropped his serve once again to let Dimitrov away with victory at 6-2.
With his win over the sixth seed Anderson, Dimitrov booked a place in the quarter-final of AEGON International. He will take on the winner of the second round clash between the third seed Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia and Mikhail
Kukushkin of Kazakhstan in the quarter-final matchup later this week.
