Grigor Dimitrov sets his sight on the AEGON Championships title – Tennis News
Bulgaria’s rising talent, Grigor Dimitrov, is confident of winning the AEGON Championships at the Queen’s Club in London.
Dimitrov stunned the ninth seed, Kevin Anderson of South Africa, in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the quarter-finals to reach the last-four stage of an ATP World Tour event for the first time in his career.
Talking to the reporters during the most match press conference, the Bulgarian said, "I think I can win it, sure. Anything can happen once you get in the semis. You can expect anything at any time on grass. I just have to keep
my feet on the ground."
There were emotional moments for the youngster, as crowd gave a standing ovation to him. He shared, "I got couple of tears. It was a good moment and I wanted to share it with the people that I love. My father was here, and I think
it was a big moment for him too. It was for me, but I think it was more for him because of all that we have been through together. It was great and after I just wanted to thank him. It was an awesome experience for us."
Dimitrov has bright chances of capturing the AEGON Championships, as all the top-five seeds have bowed out of the tournament. He is now drawn to face the 10th seeded Argentine, David Nalbandian, in the semi-finals. This will be
the Bulgarian’s first meeting with the former world number three.
The Paris, France, resident was dubbed 'Baby Fed' because of his similar style with Roger Federer. However, he failed to produce the same results as the Swiss Maestro did at the same age.
After being victorious in his latest match, Dimitrov has now an 11-8 win/loss record in this season. The Bulgarian had won just seven of the 15 matches he played before entering this tournament.
The 6ft 2in tall gave his best performance at the Sony Ericsson Open, where he reached the last 16. He had stunned the then world number seven, Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic, in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 in the round of 32.
