Grigor Dimitrov thrashes Lukasz Kubot to move to the last four – Credit Agricole Suisse Open 2012
World number 61, Grigor Dimitrov, booked his place in the semis by toppling the world number 80, Lukasz Kubot of Poland, in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the quarter-finals of the Credit Agricole Suisse Open on Friday.
Playing on the clay courts in Gstaad, the Bulgarian took an hour and two minutes to win the contest.
Dimitrov and Kubot began the proceedings in a steady manner, holding their serve in the first five games to take the score to 3-2 in favour of the former. The Bulgarian grabbed a breakthrough in the sixth and made the most of it
to win 6-3.
The 6ft 2in tall smacked one ace and hit the same number of double faults, maintaining a first serve percentage of 63. The 21-year-old converted 14 of the 17 first and seven of the 10 second deliveries into points. His performance
on the second serves was also impressive, as he won three of the four points. The Bulgarian saved the one break point he faced and converted the only one he received in the opener.
Dimitrov made the best possible start in the second set, breaking the Polish player in the very first game and consolidating on it to take a 2-0 lead. The Bulgarian did not stop there, as he struck again in the third and held his
following serve to stretch his advantage to 4-0. The Paris, France resident maintained his lead till the end and closed it 6-2.
The right-hander fared exceptionally well in all departments of the game, as he pounded four aces and did not commit any double fault in the second set, putting in 70 percent of the first serves and pocketing 11 of the 14 points
on them. The youngster dropped only one point on the second deliveries and returns, winning five of the six and six of the seven points on them respectively. The Haskovo, Bulgaria born did not come across any break point and utilised two of the seven he created.
Dimitrov will play Brazil’s 60th ranked contestant, Thomaz Bellucci, in the semi-finals. Bellucci stunned the fifth seed, Feliciano Lopez of Spain, in the quarter-finals.
