I just bought some today because my one month old daughter had a hard night last night and I think she has gas pains. I havent used it yet...has anyone used it? How long does it take to work? Do I give it to her once I start to notice that she is in pain?

  1. It only took a few minutes for it to work on my son and I would give it to him about when he started showing some discomfort. However, I would sometimes give it to him in his formula too as a preemptive strike.

  2. I have twin girls who are 6 weeks old. I bought this a week ago cause they were both having gas pains. At first the stuff worked great and very quick, I gave it to them in their bottles. After a few days of using it I noticed it wasn't working very well anymore, but IT DID work for a few days, fast and they were pain free, def use it! Good luck!

  3. I used it with my little guy, and it seemed to work at first. Just follow the directions..After a while, I just went to the gas drops, and they worked much better..I am all for homeopathy, but the drops just did better.

  4. I hurd it work really well..but i have never tried it But once my baby get gas which i know she will i will deff try it

  5. Gripe water is actually a tea made of Anise and Fennel, sweetened with sucrose. You'll see bicarbonate of soda in the ingredients, and that's baking soda. Baking soda relieves gas and settles acid in the stomach, and the Anise and Fennel are natural anti-flatulants. The sugar gets their attention immediately and makes them stop crying!

For my son, it has worked immediately. I'm thinking of making my own, too, since it is a little expensive for what it is. People have been using it for hundreds of years. Grippe is French for Flu.

Give it to her when nothing else you try seems to be helping. First try walking, swaddling, holding upright, a swing if she responds to that, a bath, a tummy massage... Sometimes, when babies cry too much, they swallow air, only compounding the problem. So, the attention getting sugar will sweeten their demeanor enough to calm them down, sometimes just a few drops.

You don't want to use it all the time, however, because they can develop a resistance of sorts-- however, the resistance bit is anecdotal.

I recommend the book The Fussy Baby by Dr. William Sears.
