Griqualand West were rattled today at De Beers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Minal-Mahesh-Patel-c76331 Oval, Kimberley, by Free State bowlers as they were bowled-out for 152 and then got smacked for 207 runs by Free State, who now have secured a lead of 55 runs with seven wickets remaining in their first innings.
Free State, who chose to field made an impression on the first delivery of the third over of the day when du Preez dismissed RA Adams for nil. At the time of this wicket, Griqualand West had posted only two runs on the board.
Then after hitting just 26 runs, the batting side lost their next wicket on the demise of number-three batsman, GL Cloete, who scored only two runs before finding his way off the field.
van Schalkwyk then struck again as he dismissed AL Seleka, who faltered after belting an 18-run knock. By this time, Griqualand West had managed to reach 30 runs.
Free State, were invincible as just two runs later, they struck again when WR Landsdale was given lbw after he had scored only five runs.
WL Coetsee and AR Swanepoel then forged a commendable partnership, taking the score to 74, before suffering the demise of their fifth wicket with Swanepoel perishing after hitting 16 runs.
Free State, then grabbed a few more wickets, before J Coetzee smashed a resilient innings of 53 off 23 deliveries, playing a dominating role in helping his side put 152 runs on the board.
D du Preez was the best bowler from Free State with a three-wicket haul.
Griqualand West made a striking impact by drawing first blood on the second delivery of the innings with Free State still waiting to open their account.
RS Second and RR Rossouw then managed to post 30 runs together, before this partnership met its demise on the departure of RS Second (10).
RR Rossouw belted a brave knock of 118, before finding his way off the field, while PJ http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Biljon stayed unbeaten on 60, as Free State closed the day with a solid score on the board.
