Griqualand West v Free State - CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition - Day 3 – Live Score and Update
Griqualand West 152 and 258 v Free State 299 and 114/5 (34.4 ov) - Free State won by 5 wickets
Saturday was a triumphant day for Free State, as they beat Griqualand West by five wickets on the final day of the three-day CSA Provincial Competition between the two sides, which was played at De Beers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Minal-Mahesh-Patel-c76331 Oval, Kimberley.
Free State, were always in the lead from the start as they bowled-out their opponents on a meagre first innings score of 152.
They then stamped their domination by clobbering 299 in their second innings, manhandling the opposition.
Griqualand West then gave a modest show in the second innings, as they ended the second day with 226 for seven.
Nonetheless, this was still not enough to give Free State a big target to chase on the final day. However, for Griqualand West the idea was to bat for as long as possible on Saturday to leave Free State with little time to go after the asking target.
Today was depressing for Griqualand West, as they were bowled-out for 258, giving Free State a target of only 112 runs to win.
Free State had a slow start to their run chase, as they avoided taking any risks to prevent an unexpected batting collapse.
The opening stand between MN Erlank and RS Second yielded 30 runs, before Erlank was trapped in front of stumps off Coetzee after bolstering 13 runs.
They then lost two more wickets, reducing them to three for 30, as Griqualand West made a strong and striking comeback in the match.
RS Second and RT Bailey then stood in the centre for a while, leading their side to 70, before the former perished after crafting an innings of 23 runs.
Two runs later, it was time for RT Bailey to hit the showers when he was shown the door by Coetzee, after hitting 27 runs off the bat.
P Botha and RK Terblanche kept the game alive by denying the fielding side another wicket as they won the match for their team with the latter taking charge by smashing 30 runs.
