Gro light plug will not fit completely in extension cord?

I have plugged in a timer into my outlet and then an extension cord so I can plug in two gro light plugs for my african violets. The problem is one gro light plug goes in all the way , while the other plug does not go in completely . Will this be okay or do I need to search for another way to connect these two lights to a timer. I hate to have to go out and buy another timer when I have had this one. This timer will not use a ground plug. Only a regular plug so I used an regular extension cord with 3 outlets but I only have 2 (24" gro lights) I cannot understand why one fits, bought both from walmart and they look just alike although the one that doesnot go completely in is a tiny bit larger, at least it looks like. They both are on right now, but I am just wondering if the one not plug all the way in is safe??

  1. all of these cheap extension cords are like that. Go get a good extension cord with a ground plug on it and one of those adapters plugs so you can put it on the timer plus a another plug so you can connect both lights to it.

  2. while the timer is unplugged you should be able to wiggle or slightly bend in or out the prongs on the one plug that's not quite fitting in to be able to go in with a little force. but if you cant you cant and as long as NOTHING touches the exposed metal prongs everything will run fine, but if something comes in contact with exposed metal there will be a short circuit electric fire.
