  1. I don't really know what you like, but I'll just take a guess at some stuff. Bring your wallet!

    2% milk

    eggs

butter (or whatever kind you like)

    bread

    lettuce

    salad dressing

    cucumbers/salad sides

    meat or sausage

    frozen vegetables

    ice cream

    hash brown patties

    coffee

    tea

    mac & cheese

    rice, noodles,

    flour? sugar?

    laundry soap

    dishsoap

    bath soap

    windex

    paper towels

    toilet paper

    toothpaste kind of stuff

    asprin kind of stuff

  2. Milk and eggs are a good start for you.Next would be bread and whatever kinds of sandwich stuff you like.A good idea is to check out the weekly ads of the store you are going shopping at and put things on your life from there :) Get boxes of pastas, tuna, meats, butter, condiments like mayo and mustard.Make sure you get some kind of crackers, maybe some soups if you like that kind of thing. Also don't forget paper towels, toilet paper,shampoo/conditioner,soap,shave cream, and other whatever else you need in the bathroom and to clean. That is all I can think of right now hehe, as time passes you will get into the groove of buying things on your own.Congrats on your first home!

  3. I'll write a very general list of things you'll need, and you pick what's relevent for you.

    Initially you need:

    Saucepans

    Bakeware

    Cooking utensil

    Crockery

    Cutlery

    Knives

    Chopping board

    Peeler

    Grater

    Bedding

    Towels

    Tea-towels

    Can opener

    Dishclothes and dishesbrush

    Broom

    Dustpan and brush

    Mop/bucket,

    Vaccuum cleaner is handy too.

    Food:

    Milk

    Eggs

    Bread

    Tea/Coffee/Cordial/Juice

    Sugar

    Pasta

    Sauces (Bbq/Tomato etc)

    Butter/Margarine

    Spreads (honey, peanut butter etc)

    Cooking oil

    Cereal

Fruit and vegetables (whatever you like, for salads, pasta dishes etc)

Meat (Cheapest to buy in bulk, and freeze in meal proportions)

    Salt & Pepper

    Packages herbs/spices/flavourings

Paper towel (always handy to clean up spills etc)

Tinned baked beans/spaghetti & 2 minute noodles (things I always keep in the cupboard, quick easy snacks or meals)

Cheese and other dairy products if applicable. eg yoghurt/icecream

Puff Pastry (I always keep some in the freezer, put a piece on a baking tray and top with your favourite toppings, cover with grated cheese and bake - makes an awesome, quick pizza)

Prepackaged meals (if that's what you prefer but it's much cheaper to make your own if you know how to)

    Bathroom:

    Toilet Paper

    Soap

    Shampoo

    Bathroom cleaning products

    Toothpaste

    Deodorant/perfumes

    Bathroom deodoriser

    Other:

    Dishwashing liquid

    Washing powder

    Garbage bags

    Aluminium foil & Cling/Glad wrap

    Freezer bags

Some things you need to buy occasionally:

    Light bulbs

I would also recommend you have a basic first aid kit too with some bandaids, Panadol/painkillers, insect bite treatment, antiseptic ointment, a couple of bandages etc, you never know when you might need it.

That should give you some idea. As far as food shopping goes, it's much cheaper to buy fruit and vegetables, pasta etc and make it from scratch, and you will learn how to cook for yourself over time. Have a look on the internet and find some basic recipes or buy a couple of recipe books. When shopping, always keep an eye open for specials, or multibuy discounts, you can usually save a fair bit of money that way. Bulk buying is good if possible, you always save money in the long run. Your first grocery shop is probably going to be the biggest one, and it's a good idea to stock up on foods that don't spoil quickly, or that can be frozen, eg pasta, tinned foods, frozen veges etc. Over time you'll get the hang of it all but it does take time to adjust from living with your parents to being out in the big bad world on your own lol. If you really get stuck, ask your mother, I'm sure she'll be able to give you a few hints.

Finally, congratulations and good luck!! (hope I haven't left out anything important)

  4. I'll give it a go!  Grocery shopping is tons of fun, you'll complete the list as you wander up and down the aisles I'm sure:

    Rice

    Pasta

    Bread

    Breakfast cereals

    Poridge (if you like it)

Orange juice or any other fruit juice

    Yogurt

    Cheese

    Butter

    Eggs

    Milk

    Fresh meat and chicken

    Fresh fish

    Fish sticks

    Chicken fingers

    Hamburgers

    Onion / Red Onion

    Potatoes

    Tomatoes

    Green Beans

    Peas

    Carrots

    Lettuce

    Apples

    Oranges

    Other fruit

    Olive oil

    Vinegar (balsamic if you wish)

    Salad dressing

    Tomato sauce

    Canned soup

    Ice Cream

    Toaster waffles

    Frozen fruit

    Frozen pizzas

    Cookies

    Crackers

    Flour

    Sugar

    Salt and Pepper

    Spices!

Hope this helps, and have fun!  Make sure you have a car, however, if you are going to buy all of this.  It's heavy!

  5. If you are likely to eat out, or order food, this is my suggestion.

Dry foods will hold up over two weeks.  Don't get too many perishables.

Get some Salad Dressing and a Head of Lettuce.

    A Box of Crackers

A Package of some kind of Cheese.

Get a bag of Potatoes (keep it in a dark cabinet).

Rice-a-Roni.  Instant Noodles.  Frozen Pizza.  Egg rolls.

    Mayonnaise, Ketchup, Mustard.

    A Jar of Pickles.

These will be good for a quick snack and give you something to cook on the stove.

Broccoli holds up well enough in the crisper bin, but if you don't want spoiled produce in the fridge, only buy what you intend to eat the same day.

  6. Congrats :)

Okay, so... you've got your milk and eggs.

    Bread

    Cereals

    Yogurts

    Snack Bars

    Fruit & Veg

If you are interested in cooking, but not that good at it, then you could try those instant meals, which involve a little bit of cooking, they are quick and fun!

    Noodles, curries, llasagna all sorts!

    Good luck. =P

  7. Pasta, cheese, bread, pasta sauces, veges, fruit, rice, salt, pepper, a few herbs and spices, tomato sauce, soy sauce, veg or olive oil, butter, washing liquid/powder, cleaning cloths, baked beans, tinned tomatoes, toilet paper,........

if you've got enough money I'd just walk up and down the aisles slowly and check out what's there and what you need straight away and what can wait for another day!
