I'm 17 and i've never had a job before and i have an interview with a very small grocery store. It's family owned and i can't find any information on it on the internet. So i don't know how to answer the question Why do you want to work here? I really don't know why i want to work at that specific store, all i know is i would work hard, be polite and be as accurate as i can under pressure. Actually I really don't know any of the answers to any of the common interview questions :( Also what should i wear? I don't own any suits or dressy dresses.

  1. all i know is i would work hard, be polite and be as accurate as i can under pressure. you answered your own question.

as for dress during the interview, visit the store, look at what teh current employees are wearing on the job. kick it up one notch.

  2. They are asking why you are interested in their business.  You can answer by mentioning your goals (learn about grocery, building skills) or you can say what you like about that location (you shop there, you know their products, you want flexible hours).

I generally apply to stores where I shop and know at least some information about them already.  They may be interested in your answer or they may be just checking out how you respond to that kind of question.

  3. First of all, just dress casual. Not jeans though. Try wearing a pair of khaki dockers or something like that and a nice blouse. Of course, make sure you have on your best smile. I would just tell them that, you chose their store, because it is family owned, and this being your first job, you feel that a family type atmosphere would be better, because you would get more one on one training then at a larger chain store.  You made good points, talking about working under pressure, and working as hard as needed for the job. Let them know that you like dealing with the public, and you think a smaller store allows you to become more familiar with people, so you have more time to focus on their needs.  Good Luck.

  4. Tell them you've shopped their before and loved the atmosphere and the friendly employees and feel as though you would be a great asset to their team by delievering that same level of courtesness that has been demonstrated by the other team members.

As for dressing, you don't have to go overboard.  Casual dressing would be fine, dress to impress.
