Groenefeld/Peschke oust Goerges/Zahlavova Strycova to capture title – Generali Ladies Linz 2012
Top seeded German-Czech duo, Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Kveta Peschke, tumbled the their fellow German-Czech junction, Julia Goerges and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, in straight sets at the Generali Ladies Linz 2012 on Sunday. They registered a 6-3, 6-4 success
over the second seeds to conquer this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International event held in Linz, Austria.
Groenefeld and Peschke showed exceptional co-ordination to overpower their opponents in their first encounter. After recording the victory in 65 minutes, the winning tandem comfortably captured the title at this indoor hard court event.
The beaming Groenefeld was quoted after grabbing the title:
"I always love playing here - last year I played with Julia actually, and we got to the finals, and a few years back I won the title. So I always play well here and Kveta and I had a great week this week, too. We just started in Tokyo this year and so far
it's been really great. We're going to play next year and for sure."
Peschke added:
“Anna-Lena and I understand each other very well on and off court, so I'm looking forward to getting another nice experience and really trying to follow it for the next year."
The higher ranked German-Czech junction made a strong entry at the Intersport Arena. They drew the first blood in the opening game and jumped to a 2-0 lead. Groenefeld and Peschke exchanged two serves breaks but remained focused and got the upper hand.  They
capitalised on anther break opportunity in the end and clicked the opener with a 6-3 success.
Groenefeld and Peschke maintained consistency in their game in the proceeding set. They got the desiderated break in the sixth game and cruised to a 5-2 lead. Despite squandering their chance of serving out the set in the ninth game, the higher ranked German-Czech
tandem broke again and clinched the set with a 6-4 score line.
All in all, Groenefeld and Peschke spilled more unforced errors and clobbered a lower first serve share of 62 per cent as compared to their rivals’ 71 per cent. However, they cashed six out of nine break chances to steal the show and claim the title.
