Groenewald’s wins six gold medals at the 2011 Australian Age Championships
Nicholas Groenewald stunned the Australian crowd by clinching six gold medals at the 2011 Australian Age Swimming Championships in the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Adelaide, last month.
Groenewald of VIC took his first gold title in the Boys 12/13 years 100m freestyle with a winning time of 54.62 seconds, while V Dai of NSW earned second spot in 55.31 seconds and N Campomolla of VIC settled third in 55.34 seconds.
In the Boys 12/13 years 200m freestyle final, Groenewald captured his second gold medal with a fascinating time of 1:57.94 minutes. On the other hand, M Davenport-Wright of VIC snared silver with a time of 1:58.61 minutes and J Parrish of QLD grabbed the
bronze in 2:01.28 minutes.
He also took home his third golden crown in the Boys 12/13 years 100m back-stroke final with a stunning time of 59.00 seconds. Meanwhile, O Seijun of QLD won the silver title with a matchless time of 1:02.08 minutes and L Angel of VIC snatched bronze in
a time of 1:02.21 minutes.
Groenewald did not stop the succession of his emphatic victories as he clinched another title in the Boys 12/13 years 200m back-stroke with a winning time of 2:07.00 minutes. On the other side, S Ohori of QLD earned silver with a time of 2:14.54 minutes,
while D Fyfe of WA rounded out the top three in 2:17.92 minutes.
Continuing his magical run, Groenewald of VIC took home his fifth golden crown in the Boy’s 12/13 years 200m Individual Medley with a remarkable time of 2:08.86 minutes. In the meantime, M Davenport-Wright of VIC picked up the top two seed in the following
meet with a sterling time of 2:14.49 minutes and V Dai of NSW wound up third in a time of 2:16.51 minutes.
Last, but not the least, N Groenewald secured top spot in the Boys 400m IM with the fastest time of 4:40.24 minutes. M Davenport-Wright of VIC took home the silver title in the respective meet with a winning time of 4:45.83 minutes, while W Coetzee of New
Zealand captured the bronze medal in a time of 4:52.26 minutes. D Fyfe of WA wound up fourth in 4:52.26 minutes.
