Question:

Grooms attire - tan suit/tux ok?

My fiance and I are getting married in late May. The ceremony is going to be outdoors, in the garden of a large bed and breakfast. The reception will be held on a covered patio off the back of the home. My guy would like to wear a grey or tan tuxedo.

I love the look but I'm worried about the etiquette. The ceremony starts at 6pm - is that too late to be wearing a light colored suit? Also, what color shoes would you suggest? The woman in the store awfulream, but that's sounds awful to me! The groom will likely be wearing an ivory vest and tie and the groomsmen apple green.

Thanks!

  1. that would be ok. for the night, it' s fine too. but if you wanted some colour in there, id go with the grey suit so that it would go nicely with a coloured shirt/tie. but what you have picked should be fine.

  2. He's the groom, he can wear what he wants. I think it would be fine.

  3. Its great! My sister just got married and the guys all wore tan/taupe suit with orange ties and it was beautiful. I was concerned when I saw the pieces seperately. But on it looked great.

Her wedding started at 6:30pm. It did not seem inappropiate or informal.

    Good Luck! =o)

  4. Is it to late to move the ceremony up oh, lets say a hour? The suit/ tux looks nice, if it a small ceremony then do not sweat it. If we are talking about the "social event " for the county then ask a wedding planner.

  5. If he wants to wear a light suit, have him wear a light suit. If he wants to wear a tuxedo, have him wear a black tuxedo. You can't have it both ways.

In other words, while the suit looks basically all right, it would be unwise to combine it with a satin vest and tie the way they do. Mixing and matching from different elements of formalwear is something butlers do, not grooms. (You can't trust tuxedo rental shops--they simply don't know anything about formalwear. Ever seen a powder blue tuxedo?)

Rental shops continue to spit out these half-breed tuxedos, making the wedding photos of unsuspecting customers look dated in a decade. Classic formalwear is the only way to guarantee a timeless wedding.

Really, the sharpest thing for your fiancé and his groomsmen to do would be to wear an ivory tuxedo jacket with black tuxedo pants. This is the classic warm-weather evening look. I mean, only if he wants to look like Humphrey Bogart:

  6. Grey would be best, with grey or black shoes.

  7. I love the tan, it is unique and looks great

  8. i think it would be fine, my husband wore a tux that color with an ivory vest and a chocolate brown tie. i would do brown shoes with a tan tux and black shoes with a grey tux. i loved the way the tan tux looked and it made out day more unique, go for it you will not be sorry.
