Groovederci skipper John Demourkas happy with team’s victory: 2012 Farr 40 East Coast Championship
Tremendous teamwork from the Groovederci crew under the leadership of John Demourkas brought the team on top of the 2012 Farr 40 East Coast Championship. The American team compiled 41 points after setting sail in 11 races on the Bert Jabin's Yacht Yard waters,
which also include two bullet positions.
The 2012 Farr 40 East Coast Championship victory is the first and foremost success for John Demourkas who joined the Farr 40 class in 2004. His team performed consistently throughout the regatta despite making a slow start of the regatta. Demourkas is quite
satisfied the way his team sailed in the regatta.
While speaking to the local media, Demourkas said, “It was a real slugfest out there today. I can't say enough about Cam and the rest of the team. Everyone rose to the occasion. Now I know what it's like to be Jim Richardson. It feels awfully good to win
and we are going to really enjoy this.”
A 10th place in the opening race was not a strong start for them as they tumbled down in the standings but still the crew did not lose their heart and focus. They came back brilliantly with a bullet in the second race and lifted their morale.
They had some lower finishes in the middle of the regatta but they were not enough to break their lead and the team captured the title with 41 points.
