The name of the town where it was filmed in total is Woodstock Illinois but of course it is a characterization of Puxatawney Pennsylvania...The current name of the Ground hog there is Puxatawney Phil....The hotel Pennsylvania( where Murray stayed and was in the film all the time) is really the refurbished Woodstock Opera house. and you can tour it for free if you ever go to Woodstock.Illinois

  6. Since all the celebrations and the groundhog is in Punxsutawney makes sense that it was set there.
