I have a Group assessment interview Wed with Safeway and would like to know more about the process.

Safeway sent me the following information:

Woolworths/Safeway Supermarkets conduct Group Assessments, as they are a more reliable assessment tool than traditional one-on-one interviewing. This is because all candidates are completing the same activities at the same time. As part of the group assessment process, we also have observers. Their role is to watch and record behaviors of 4-5 candidates each, to ensure that everyone is observed fairly. In addition, candidates can be observed by more than one person during the assessment, which makes the process more objective and eliminated value judgements.

The entire process will take approximately 1 hour. During this time, you will cover

*

Company Overview

*

Two activities — one of which you will be working in pairs, the other you will be working in small groups.

*

The final part of the process is a numeracy/literacy test which is completed individually.

Has anyone recently undertaken one of these group assessments ?

If so, what type of questions/scenarios did they pose ?

What work did you do with your partner?

What was involved in the numeracy/literacy tests?

  1. Even though I havent been in one of these assessment interviews, I can hopefully give you a good idea of what they are looking for.

Company Overview; They will ask you questions about woolies, along the lines of, where do you hope to be within in the company in 5yrs etc.. a good answer would be.. I would in the future, with more training and guidence, like to take on the role of Nightfill 3ic and even nightfill manager, then aim to progress to Longlife (grocery) 2ic + Longlife Manager. (even if you only want this job as a casual $$ maker for 12mths,you want them to think you want the job long term)

They are big on SAFETY,so questions relating to this should be answered with.. I recognise that company policies are to be strictly adhered to and are in place for the safety of myself, other team members and the public. (If you have a first aid cert, great,if not, a good question to ask would be.. after my probation period and if a PPT or permanent postion on n/fill became availble, I would be interested in taking a F/AID course to further my skills..

When you are being assessed in the group situation, they are looking at whether you get along with people, how well you communicate your ideas,if you listen to what the other people are saying,if you are a team player. Because THAT is what N/fill is all about,TEAMWORK.

Also they look for leadership skills.

The numeracy test would be like an IQ type test, dont sweat it, just answer the Q's you can, they arent looking for brain surgeon's, its just a guide for them, put more effort into the group assessment.

If down south is anything like Qld,they have a shortage of n/fill managers and casuals,so dont panick,as long as you are hard working,(bcoz trust me,its a full on job) are available wheneva they call and you dont knock back shifts... you will get as many hrs as you need.

Really hope this helps, just be yourself, it is a great job once you get your foot in the door.. Have fun and good luck with the interview.
